West Library will host Kate Sierra of CETL as she presents a Mitchell-Reed Community of Learners Lecture at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 in the Library Orientation Room.

In this interactive session, participants will learn about the incoming group of students known as Generation Z. Born between 1995 and 2015, Generation Z brings its own unique needs and expectations to the higher education campus. Attendees will explore their personal beliefs about this latest population and will gain insight from the latest educational research into how best to teach them. All participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of what motivates GenZ, several teaching methods that they can immediately implement in their classes, and ideas for some new techniques to use in the future.

Kate joined Texas Wesleyan as an adjunct professor of French in 2015. She joined the CETL Team as an instructional designer in October 2019. During her time as an adjunct, she taught students from Schreiner, Texas Lutheran and Lubbock Christian in both synchronous and online environments as part of the Texas Learning Consortium. She also served as the TLC Pedagogy Team Lead for three years. She earned her degrees at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and the Université Catholique de l’Ouest in Angers, France.

Kate taught for over 20 years in the Highland Park and Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISDs and at two local homeschool co-ops. She served as foreign language department chair at L.D. Bell High School for five years.
